All rights reserved
Arab classical music and traditional Palestinian music are featured in this concert organized on the occasion of end of year celebrations.
Students of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music of Palestine - percussionist, clarinettists, oud (stringed instrument), qanun (sort of zither) and nay (reed flute) players - will perform a selection of pieces coming from Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey, Lebanon and Palestine.
In 1993, the year of its foundation, the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music welcomed forty students. There are now more than 700 who receive a music education taught by forty professors. Over five sites (Bethlehem, Gaza, Jerusalem, Ramallah and Nablus) the Conservatory organizes each year, in addition to concerts, the Arab Music Festival (Layali Al-Tarab), and every two years, a national music competition - some winners of previous editions will also be on stage Tuesday, December 18.
The institution was named Edward Said in 2004 as a tribute to the intellectual, essayist, and musicologist Palestinian-American who died in 2003.
