"Une étrange cathédrale dans la graisse des ténèbres" (A Strange Cathedral in the Viscous Darkness) evokes the devastating effects of the earthquake that struck the Haitian capital on January 12, 2010, through the words of Haiti’s greatest living poet Frankétienne and his premonitory play Le Piège (The Trap). Shot in the ruins of Port-au-Prince’s main cathedral, this film is an ode to life and suffering, a poetic response to the tragedy and desperation of a people who continue to mourn the 250,000 lives lost in the earthquake.
Produced by La Huit, co-produced with Les Productions Fanal and Trace TV, with the participation of TV5 Monde and the French Ambassy in Haïti, with the support of the Région Île-de-France, the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC), the société civile des Producteurs de Cinéma et de Télévision (Procirep), the Agence Nationale de Gestion des Œuvres Audiovisuelles (Angoa) and the Fondation Connaissance & Liberté (Fokal).
