World AIDS Day 2018

This year's official World AIDS Day theme, "Know your status", highlights the way that comprehensive sexuality education helps young people make healthier life decisions, including knowing their HIV status.

Every year on December 1, UNESCO stands together with the UNAIDS Secretariat, co-sponsors and other partners for World AIDS Day, calling for a world where everyone is able to realize the highest attainable standard of health and well-being, free from stigma and discrimination. A world where no one is left behind.

While considerable progress has been made towards ending AIDS as a public health threat, the HIV epidemic is not over and young people remain disproportionately at risk. Worldwide in 2017, there were approximately 250,000 new HIV infections and 38, 000 AIDS-related deaths among adolescents. 1.8 million adolescents are living with HIV globally.
