A 6-days training of trainers session will be organized in close partnership with the Réseau des Jeunes en Action pour la Paix et le Développement (REJA), a Youth Network composed of around 150 youth organizations from all over Burundi and very active in youth activities for peace and development.

To develop civic engagement and intercultural dialogue between young men and women, this training will benefit ten people who will themselves be called to train their peers, during the month of March 2013, no less than 225 young people across Burundi. The trainers from REJA will be working with a University lecturer specialized in cultural diversity.

Organized in close cooperation with Burundian Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, the goal of the project is to build the capacities of young women and men to act as responsible right holders and agents of change to establish lasting peace and social cohesion within their communities and all over the country.

From the beginning of March 2013, the 10 trainers who participated in the session will start to train around 45 participants in 5 selected provinces: Bujumbura Rural, Bururi, Gitega, Muramvya and Mwaro.

In total, nearly 225 young men and women will benefit from the courses on various thematic areas leading to social cohesion such as: citizenship education, intercultural dialogue, peaceful resolution of conflicts, democracy, good governance, youth participation in decision-making, fight against corruption and electoral education.

Developed by UNESCO, in partnership with UNFPA, UNICEF, and UNDP, this project is part of a UN inter-agency plan of action in favor of youth, education and HIV/AIDS.
