Global Migration Group - Meeting of Principals

UNESCO’s Director-General, will participate in the meeting of Principals of the Global Migration Group (GMG), which is convened by the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), in its capacity as Chair of the Group for 2014. It will take place on 8 July 2014 in the margins of the ECOSOC High-level Segment organized in New York, and hosted at the United Nations Secretariat Building.

The GMG, which is a platform composed of 17 UN agencies and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), promotes coherence and coordination on action regarding migration.

The Director-General will bring UNESCO’s perspective to the discussion on the GMG’s ongoing input to the post-2015 process.

The meeting will serve to reaffirm the involvement of the Group in the process and also identify possible joint strategic initiatives in the months to come.

It will also identify possible joint strategic initiatives in the months to come with a dual objective: inform the elaboration of migration-related goals/targets/indicators and develop instruments and tools to facilitate the integration of migration in the development work at the country level.

At this meeting, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations University (UNU) will be welcomed as the new members of the Group.
