Coalition of Cities against Discrimination in Asia and the Pacific

Organized in the framework of the World Human Rights Cities Forum 2012, placed under the UNESCO’s patronage, this conference will be entirely focused on the theme: “Creative Cities for ‘Glocal’ (Global + Local) Security and Peace in Asia and the Pacific”.

Gathering governors, mayors and local governments from several countries of Asia and the Pacific, this conference will provide a forum for sharing best practices and evaluating experiences in order to develop and strengthen policies to counter all forms of discrimination.

Its objective is also to advance on the elimination of discriminatory practices through the implementation of the “Ten Point of Action Plan”, adopted by the 4,400 local governments and cities members of this regional network created in 2006, in particular by the development of concrete activities.

Focus will be thus put on a greater social inclusion of city dwellers in the full respect of their human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life.

Three sub-themes will be discussed:
1. Human Rights and Cities;
2. Social Inclusion;
3. Cities and Global Environment Change.

Participants will be also invited to have a thematic discussion on discrimination-related issues such as education, culture, housing, employment, economic, environment, etc.
