Restitution Workshop of the Qualitative Survey on the Participation of Young Women in Public Life in Tunisia
From July to December 2012, UNESCO and the Center of Arab Woman for Training and Research (CAWTAR) conducted a large qualitative survey on young Tunisian women’s representation of politics. The results will be released in Tunis on Friday 18 January 2013.
The workshop will be organized with the participation of Ms Pilar Alvarez-Laso, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Social and Human Sciences, and with the support of Kingdom of Netherlands.
A documentary on a group of young women who participated in the survey will also be screened and discussed with participants.
First of its kind in Tunisia, this qualitative survey focuses on the South-West and Central-West region of Tunisia, and sheds light on the causes of feelings of inclusion/exclusion present among young women regarding their political participation, especially during the last election (23 October 2012) and during the current democratic transition. Courses of action will be proposed to enhance equitable participation of this target group in public life.
Many Tunisian policy makers, including members of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), as well as civil society actors, researchers and representatives of international organizations concerned with the political participation of women in Tunisia will attend this workshop.
