Regional MOST School in Brazil – "Youth, Participation and Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean"
A Regional School of the UNESCO MOST Programme will be held in Brasilia, Brazil, from 13 to 18 December 2013, to promote, debate, analyse and exchange knowledge on social development and public youth policies in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This one-week Summer School will include the participation of young researchers, youth leaders of civil society organizations and youth policy makers who will participate in a series of seminars and workshops.
The School aims to be a real forum for reflection and dissemination of knowledge between young researchers in social sciences and youth policy makers from different countries.
For the first time since its creation, the Regional School of UNESCO's MOST Programme will innovate by including the participation of young leaders of social youth organizations.
For the Brazilian National Youth Secretariat, which is hosting the School, the presence of social organizations is fundamental because it enriches the process of teaching and learning and extends the debate between participants.
The course offered by this Summer School will focus on the following topics:
• Social participation
• Social development
• Public policies for youth
• The relations between scientific knowledge, civil society initiatives and public policy with a focus on youth.
The opening conference, seminars and "Living Experiences" workshops are open to participants and guests, while the workshops and plenary sessions will count on the participation of selected participants: 20 researchers from Latin America and the Caribbean, 20 young leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean, 20 managers in Latin America and the Caribbean, selected from the dialogue with the National Forum of Managers; 20 researchers from the Youth Observatories linked to public universities in Latin America and the Caribbean; 10 representatives "Conjuve"; and 20 virtual participants, who subscribed via the website "Participatory Youth Observatory".
The event is organized by the Brazilian National Youth Secretariat (SNJ), in partnership with UNESCO, the Ibero-American Youth Organization (OIJ), the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLASCO), and the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO).
