In the framework of the first International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, celebrated on 6 April 2014, the Juan Flores Umaña Elementary School will be visiting the Roberto Cantillano School on 4 April. Two teams of boys and girls the second cycle of primary education will meet in a friendly football tournament. Both schools are part of the network of UNESCO Associated Schools (ASPNET).
The tournament is an encounter to celebrate the contribution of sports and physical activity to education, human development, a healthy lifestyle and a world of peace.
In August 2013, the United Nations General Assembly made the decision to proclaim 6 April as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. The adoption of this day is a sign of growing recognition by the United Nations of the positive influence that sports can have on the advancement of human rights, and social and economic development. This initiative has been embraced by UNESCO during the 36th Session of its General Conference and the 192nd Session of its Executive Board.
