Following a series of seminars organised by the ATD Fourth World Movement, this colloquium will be the occasion to present the results of a research about the links between poverty, violence and peace. This research has been led for three years by ATD Fourth World. Around one thousand people from twenty five countries, most of them living in conditions of great poverty and insecurity, have been involved in this research.

This international meeting will be the occasion to reflect on the question of violence that affects the impoverished, and to confront the experiences/thoughts of the ATD Fourth World members with people working in the field of research and international activism, on issues such as:
- Material deprivation and denial of fundamental rights
- Institutional violence and its consequence
- Non-recognition of impoverished persons as equal human beings
- Difficulties in adapting the projects to the needs of the disadvantaged
- Resistance to violence and the existing paths towards peace
- Mingling different sources of knowledge to the service of peace

The main objectives of this colloquium are the following:
- Analyse the violence, linked to extreme poverty
- Create dialogue and mutual learning between persons from very different horizons
- Build peace and identify the ways of ending violent situations, undergone by the people living in conditions of extreme poverty
- Share the results of the project with academics and actors engaged on the issues of human rights, social justice and sustainable development, as well as with groups and associations in which the people living in poverty are the main actors
Workshops with persons that have participated in the study conducted by ATD Fourth World and specialists from different areas will be organized. Presentations and debates will take place in plenary session.
