Translating knowledge into cure with the Organization for Specialized Studies on the diseases of the Esophagus (OESO)
UNESCO is co-organising, jointly with the Organization for Specialized Studies on the diseases of the Esophagus (OESO), the 12th OESO World Congress from 27 to 30 August 2013 at UNESCO headquarters.
For this time, and after only several months since the previous session, a scientific program is being drawn up to propose yet another presentation of the original OESO methodology which is to have one single subject examined in all the different angles of multi-disciplinarily, an uninterrupted succession of pinpointed questions and concise five minute responses.
Almost 30 years after the launching of this initiative an assessment is needed and brings new questions. Way back when, where were Genetics, Epigenetics, gene targeted therapy and what we call in the 21st Century, "The intelligent Medicine"?
This year the Basic Sciences will be present in force with our partner, heading the Human Variome Project, along with the strategies for the prevention of cancer and its recurrences.
It is a far reaching, quite exceptional, global view that is in the planning. That is why other Organizations will mark this event with their, also exceptional, joint participation: the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the French Academy on Surgery, and several of the most highly well-known cancer centres in the world.
Three leading, world renowned figures from three different parts of the world will join forces to chair over this event and testify to its multi-disciplinarity:
- Richard G. Cotton, Scientific Director of the Human Variome Project from the University of Melbourne,
- Brice Gayet, Professor of Surgery from Paris Medical School and
- George Triadafilopoulos, Professor of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy from the Stanford University.
