Poster of the WSIS+10 Review meeting
10 years after the adoption of Geneva Plan of Action in 2003, UNESCO is hosting the first WSIS+10 review meeting in the lead up to the 2014 ITU meeting and 2015 overall review by the UN General Assembly. This high-level multistakeholder event will take place at its headquarters, in Paris, France from 25 to 27 February 2013.
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) set a common vision of societies in which information and knowledge play critical roles in enabling the development of countries, societies and individuals, including those marginalized and the most vulnerable. In 2015, the WSIS outcomes implementation will be reviewed by UN General Assembly in pursuance of the Resolution 60/252 and the paragraph 111 of the Tunis Agenda for the Information Society. In this respect UNESCO’s 36th General Conference resolution concerning the WSIS follow-up and implementation has requested UNESCO to organize a high-level WSIS review meeting in Paris in 2013. This meeting will assess the progress made, look at ongoing and future ICT trends and build a vision for new information/knowledge societies in the framework of the overall WSIS review process towards 2015.
