Trafficking of women: exploring effective policies and mechanisms to prevent it through education.
The Division for Gender Equality (ODG/GE) in cooperation with the Permanent Delegation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to UNESCO is organising a Conference in order to raise awareness and sensitize on Women Trafficking.
Awareness raising and sensitization among potentially trafficked women, their families and communities, appear to be crucial to reduce a practice that affects worldwide 2.4 million people annually, with 80% of these being women and girls. Comprehensive and integrated efforts to raise awareness among potential victims and their communities must engage simultaneously with formal and informal education, communication and media and policy development in receiving, transit and sending countries. The event intends to further explore the links, synergies and opportunities of engaging with these elements simultaneously.
