Byblos (Lebanon), World Heritage site

Preservation and safeguarding of cultural heritage of Lebanon is the main topic of the two days round tables.
Scientists, academics and Lebanese NGOs will discuss and exchange with the public on issues such as the environment and natural heritage, intangible cultural heritage, art and creativity. These discussions will be based on the review on the state of conservation of archaeological and historical sites, prepared by NGOs operating in Lebanon.

These two days dedicated to the heritage of "the Land of the Cedars" intend to raise public awareness on threats related to the preservation of the architectural or natural sites : physical damages, deforestation, looting, for example, and to find and inventory solutions for protection and safeguarding.

Lebanon has five sites (Anjar, Baalbek, Byblos, Wadi Kadisha or Holy Valley and the Forest of the Cedars of God, Tyr) inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO (http://whc.unesco.org/fr/ list /) and ratified the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2003.
