Working together with the programme sectors, Member States and public or private partners the Special Events Section organizes, each month, cultural events (shows, concerts, exhibitions, prize-giving ceremony, cinema screenings, etc.) at the UNESCO House.

Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory (1862), the Grand Symphony Orchestra of students of the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, Mikhail Gantvarg (violin), rector of the conservatory, Denis Matsuev (piano) and Sergei Markarov (piano), UNESCO Artist for Peace, will perform the “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra Op.35” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and “Scheherazade, symphonic suite op. 35 “ by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov under the direction of Mikhail Golikov.
The St. Petersburg Conservatory, founded in 1862, has played a major role in the artistic and cultural community. The first Conservatory in Russia, this prestigious music school trained generations of artists such as choreographer George Balanchine, violinist and conductor Richard Burgin, pianist Alexander K. Borovsky, impresario Sergei Diaghilev, conductor Valery Gergiev, composers Sergei Prokofiev, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, pianists Grigory Sokolov and Sergei Rachmaninov ...
