Through Education, Science, Culture and Communication, UNESCO promotes international co-operation among its 195 Member States.
The overarching objectives are:
| Attaining quality education for all and lifelong learning | Mobilizing science knowledge and policy for sustainable development | Addressing emerging social and ethical challenges | Fostering cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and a culture of peace | Building inclusive knowledge societies through information and communication |
These objectives underpin UNESCO’s programme which is funded through the regular contributions of Member States and the voluntary contributions provided by partners and donors. The latter also offer valuable in kind support including know-how, knowledge sharing and human resources. UNESCO’s actions contribute to the realisation of the MDGs and other internationally agreed development goals.
