The Director-General signs an agreement to promote a Culture of Peace with Chinese largest private television
On 9 December, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, and the Chairman and CEO of Phoenix Television, Mr Liu Changle, signed an agreement on a “Strategic Partnership for Culture of Peace Programme”. Within the framework of the agreement, Phoenix TV will donate 1 million USD to enhance the visibility of UNESCO’s Culture of Peace programme with the Chinese speaking audience.
“Thanks to this partnership, UNESCO’s advocacy for peace and intercultural dialogue will be further promoted,” said the Director-General. “This partnership illustrates the strong interest that Chinese society shows in UNESCO’s work to promote dialogue and mutual understanding. I look forward to a very productive cooperation with more Chinese private sectors to nurture a culture of peace, through our work in education, the sciences, communication and culture”.
This partnership will draw on Phoenix Television, the Hong Kong based largest private Chinese Language TV, to promote UNESCO’s culture of peace and non-violence programme to the Chinese public, in particular with the younger generation, through joint TV projects, seminars and events to mobilize more resources from the Chinese society in support of this project and UNESCO in general.
The Chinese Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Ambassador You Shaozhong, expressed his high appreciation of this partnership emphasizing that it will play an important role in enhancing the visibility of UNESCO in China and the engagement of the Chinese people in UNESCO’s work.
