UNESCO/B.Aliaga

From 10 to 12 April 2012, UNESCO and Oman held their first annual review meeting at UNESCO Headquarters to discuss the implementation of the project aiming at establishing a National Multi Hazard Early Warning (NMHEWS). The meeting was successful, and allowed an in-depth and constructive discussion with representatives from the Oman Ministry of Transport ad Ministry for Meteorological Affairs. It is therefore expected that the NMHEWS will be operational by the end of 2013.

A Memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Transports and Communications of the Sultanate of Oman and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization was signed in October 2009. The main objective of the cooperation is to establish a Tsunami Early Warning System in Oman.
