UNESCO and the Nordic World Heritage Foundation enter into two agreements
On 26 February 2013, UNESCO and the Nordic World Heritage Foundation (NWHF) signed two agreements and reaffirmed their willingness to strengthen their mutual cooperation.
A funding agreement in the amount of NOK 750,000 (approx. USD150,000) will support the safeguarding of the natural heritage in Myanmar.
The project has the following specific objectives:
- To strengthen upstream processes for nominating natural World Heritage in Myanmar
- To enhance awareness about World Heritage and technical capacity in nominating and managing natural heritage sites
- To demonstrate the application of the World Heritage Convention standards by selecting one beneficiary site with potential natural significance for nomination and enhanced management
In addition, a framework agreement was signed through which the Foundation will continue its assistance for the statutory meetings of the World Heritage Committee, especially by supporting the participation of representatives from the Least Developed Countries.
The Nordic World Heritage Foundation (NWHF) is a Center under the auspices of UNESCO (Category 2) and is specialized in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention in developing countries.
