In the framework of the reformed electoral process in Jordan and of the 2012 Parliamentarian elections, the project enhancing professional and accurate media reporting on the electoral process has been launched by UNESCO in partnership with the European Union. It aims at supporting the capacity building of Jordanian media professionals and stakeholders to report professionally, accurately and comprehensively throughout the electoral process. This Project will be implemented with a mix of standard, localized and innovative activities designed to:

  • develop, in a participatory way, a strategy to support the Jordanian media community (including online media) in understanding its essential role in an electoral process;
  • train media professionals at all levels on reporting accurately, professionally and independently on elections as per international best-practices, including specialized sessions on investigative reporting, and gender-sensitive reporting during elections;
  • provide in-house support to 15 pilot media entities (media outlets, media associations or local media centres) to improve the quality of the election reporting.
