Cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank in supporting the formulation and review of science, technology and innovation policies for African Member States
In December 2011, UNESCO and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in supporting the formulation and review of science, technology and innovation (STI) policies for African Member States. The MoU builds on and reinforces the existing general framework MoU signed in 1977 between the two organizations.
Thanks to this MoU, signed by UNESCO Director-General and President of the Islamic Development Bank, Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al Madani, potential joint initiatives are being identified to promote collaboration in supporting common African Member States in the field of STI. The aim is to help the two organizations’ African member countries in drafting national policies devoted to supporting sciences and technologies in addition to launching practical programmes related to development needs.
UNESCO and the Islamic Development bank have also been cooperating in different areas in the field of Education through project implementation in different regions of the world.
