Open discussion with Professor Vinh-Kim Nguyen

Professor Vinh-Kim NGUYEN, medical doctor and anthropologist is Associate Professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Montreal, Canada. He spoke on: “Gender, Culture and HIV in the 21st Century”, more specifically on “Social Triage: Gender and the response to HIV”.

This event took place in the framework of an Expert Group Meeting organized on the 4 and the 5 of October 2007 in UNESCO Headquarters.

The meeting brought together a number of concerned scholars whose work addresses the question of how and why the response to the HIV epidemic is failing women, particularly young women and girls.

Professor Vinh-Kim Nguyen’s talk was followed by an open discussion moderated by Ms Gülser Corat, Director of the Division for Gender Equality of the Bureau of Strategic Planning.
