Video Fighting illicit traffic - Butrint and Phoenice
The UNESCO Venice Office will organize in cooperation with the Albanian Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports, and with the support of the One UN Coherence Fund in Albania, an international expert meeting on “Awareness-raising, communication and outreach strategies: fighting the illicit traffic of cultural property in South-East Europe”.
Aldo Bumçi, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports of Albania, Zineb Touimi-Benjelloun, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Albania, and Anthony Krause, Chief of the Culture Unit in the UNESCO Venice Office, will open the meeting.
The meeting will serve to look at ways to ensure the dissemination to the wider public (heritage sites, tourism offices, customs, airports, media, televisions, social networks, etc) of general messages on the fight against the illicit traffic of cultural property.
This event will bring together key national players in Albania affected by the implementation of the UNESCO 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, international experts (Interpol, Federal Office of Culture in Switzerland, Directorate for the Documentation and the Protection of Cultural Goods in the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism, UNESCO 1970 Convention Secretariat) and representatives involved in communication and outreach policies and strategies.
The UNESCO Venice Office will present a 15-minute video on awareness-raising to the fight against the illicit traffic of cultural property in South-East Europe, realized in close cooperation with all Ministries of Culture and National Commissions of South-East Europe. The geographical scope of this film covers the following countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey.
Thanks to the generous support of Austria (the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture; the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs; and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth), the video was translated in Albanian language. Presenting the film, and other materials, will help to show the different dimensions of illicit traffic in South-East Europe, the necessity to mobilize public opinion, to develop and share good practices through regional and international cooperation.
