The Scientific Council is the main advisory body of the UNESCO Venice Office. It helps identify fields and projects to which the Office may contribute. It formulates proposals for, and gives advice on, programme activities.

Having formulated the general guidelines and recommended appropriate ways for the carrying out of the Office's activities, the Steering Committee submits to the Director-General the UNESCO Venice Office's annual draft Programme and Budget for final approval.
