United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) hereby invite qualified companies capable of providing the restoration/preservation works to submit sealed tenders for:

The subject of the activity is to carry out first phase of restoration/preservation of the six (6) selected monuments within the historic zone of Gjirokastra in Albania, in order to ensure proper conditions for long term preservation of the monuments concerned. All foreseen works are directly related to the further protection of the valuable monuments as specified in the agreement between the donor – Government of Albania and UNESCO.

The subject of the tender procedure is the restoration / preservation / conservation of House of Ismail Kadare located within the historic zone of Gjorokastra ( World Heritage Site “ Museum City – Gjirokastra”).

The assignment in general includes the following restoration/ preservation / conservation works:
1. Complete or partial restoration of the monument, including restoration of the structures, structural elements, roofs, covers, facades, windows, doors, and other architectural elements as specified in Solicitation documents
2. Preparation of the documentation related to the restoration works executed including, drawings and photographic documentation on restoration process carried out.
3. The entire works are going to be carried out in accordance to the recommendations and under scientific supervision of UNESCO in cooperation with the State institutions of Albania concerned with the protection of cultural heritage.

The above mentioned activities are to be carried out within the general framework of the project 933 ALB 4000 "Restoration of the historical centre of Gjirokastra in Albania” (financed by the funds provided by the Government of Albania) that is dedicated to the safeguard and rehabilitation of the selected monuments within the World Heritage Site of Gjirokastra.
Important note:

Partial offers are not going to be accepted. The purpose of this notice is to provide general information on the requirements for the procurement process and to inform interested suppliers how to obtain a copy of the Solicitation Documents.

The sealed tenders must be delivered to the UNESCO Venice Office – BRESCE, 4930 Castello - Palazzo Zorzi, 30122 Venice on or before 23 March 2009 at 16.00 hours CET , in strict compliance with the instructions as stipulated in the Solicitation Documents.

Interested companies who wish to participate in the OIC must request for a complete set of Solicitation Documents, available free of charge, from 02 March 2009 at the address shown below.

UNESCO reserves the right to amend the tender documents at any time during the solicitation process. Any amendments or clarifications will be communicated directly to all Bidders who have requested for a complete set of solicitation documents and officially confirmed their intention to submit a sealed tender. No remuneration will be made to companies for preparation and submission of their tenders.
