For the 3rd consecutive year, the UNESCO Venice Office will support MAREMETRAGGIO International Short and Debut Film Festival to be held in Trieste (Italy) from 25 June through 3 July 2010.
UNESCO Venice Media Advisory N°2010-03 (18/06/2010) : The Venice Office supports the 11th edition of the Maremetraggio Film Festival in the frame of safeguarding and promoting the diversity of cultural expressions - of which the cinema is one of the major representations. Cinema is a multi-faceted phenomenon which permits both individual and collective creativity. It is an effective instrument of creative expression which encourages opportunities for interaction, sharing and exchanging cultural diversity on a global level. It is also part of the cultural industry and an indicator of social development.
For this very reason, the support to Maremetraggio is a significant contribution to the 2010 International Year of Rapprochement of Cultures. This international film festival has a vocation to show films representing countries belonging to the Central European Initiative (CEI) - where a special recognition will be awarded, which perfectly integrates the global action of the Venice Office to encouraging the safeguarding and promotion of cultural diversity in the South East Europe region. Youth and their education are primary objectives in UNESCO programmes.
