The seventh edition of the European Union Sustainable Energy Week kicks off in just a few days. In this frame, the Italian association NordEstSudOvest, in cooperation with UNESCO Venice Office among many other partners, is organizing from 16 to 24 June a series of promotional Energy Day events and activities in 3 cities of the Veneto Region. The events have been granted the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Environment and Protection of Land and Sea, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Ministry of Economic Development, and the European Commission – EUSEW.

As a core activity of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign, the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) involves every year hundreds of organisations, cities and individuals from over thirty Countries. By means of bottom-up efforts, these events, activities, projects and exhibitions allow a direct contact with citizens and energy stakeholders at the local, regional and national levels, helping Europe reach its energy goal.

Promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy sources through different means is the goal of NordEstSudOvest. On the edge of the success of last year edition, NordEstSudOvest has enlarged its Sustainable Energy Week beyond the borders of the city of Mestre, reaching Venice and Chioggia.

What is happening during EUSEW 2012 in these cities?

During the events of the Week, the “Sustainable Energy Spring” is an initiative involving high school students, running for an award for their projects. Aimed at the general public and to raise awareness, eight info-points will be located on the main square of Mestre (Piazza Ferretto) and the main street of Chioggia (Corso del Popolo) for the full week.

The programme will include seven high-level conferences gathering personalities from universities, industries, and cultural and public research institutions. These debates serve to promote dialogue among different actors and to address a wide range of energy-related issues, from global to local matters.

Two exhibitions will inaugurate the whole series of events: “The Tower of Sustainable Energy” at the Civic Tower of Mestre and the photo exhibition “Aphrodite - Water Art” at the ArtLife Gallery in Venice.

The programme is available in Italian at www.nordestsudovest.org.
