Invitation to apply : UNESCO Regional Summer School on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Governance (Extended Deadline: 25 July 2011)

The Regional Summer School on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Governance, organized by UNESCO Venice Office in collaboration with GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation) Open Regional Fund for South East Europe – Energy Efficiency, the Regional Education and Information Centre (REIC), will take place in Fojnica, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 23 August up through 3 September 2011. Young professionals and university master/PhD candidates students from South-East Europe are invited to apply.

The Regional Summer School on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Governance, organized by UNESCO Venice Office in collaboration with GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation) Open Regional Fund for South East Europe – Energy Efficiency, the Regional Education and Information Centre (REIC), will take place in Fojnica, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 23 August up through 3 September 2011.

Goals The school aims to: Offer educational support to young researchers from South Eastern Europe on renewable energy and energy efficiency issues; Enhance the interdisciplinary approach and critical thinking of students on sustainable energy governance; Build capacities on renewable energy and energy efficiency promotion as an element of reaching sustainable development and confront Climate Change in the SEE region; Strengthen the dissemination of information on renewable energy and energy efficiency potentials in the region; and to Strengthen the interface between young researchers and practitioners with industrial partners of high profile for the improvement of summer school technical provision.

Concept The School is organized according to the following overarching modules: A. International Module in Energy Governance (including geopolitics, Ethics, Technology and climate change); B. Regional Module in Energy Governance (perspectives, trend lines within the EU and implications for SEE in economy, policy and technology); C. Local Module in Energy Governance in cultural and natural sites (including UNESCO designated sites); D. Industrial Partners contribution (team work in drafting energy territorial plans and project proposals for EU IPA- ERDF funds related project in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency); E. Field Trip to visit local experiences in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. F. Movie night(s) and general discussion on selected energy related topics.

Target group The multidisciplinary programme is addressed to young professionals and university master/PhD candidates students, possibly two, (women are encouraged to apply), from the following countries in South-East Europe: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia as well as UNMIK/Kosovo. No fees will be required by selected participants. The organizer will cover local transportation, full board accommodation costs. Official language of the school is English.
