Maremetraggio International Festival. Screening cultural diversity for youth
UNESCO Venice Office will renew its support to the 12th edition of the MAREMETRAGGIO International Film Short Film and Debut Feature Festival, to be held in Trieste (Italy) from 1 through 9 July 2011. Organized by the Maremetraggio Association in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture and Youth, the Cultural administration of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, the Municipality of Trieste and the Central European Initiative, it mainly displays and promotes various debut works created by new and young filmmakers. This edition will include a focus section on cultural diversity in short films, through specific screenings and a round table with directors, actors and representatives of the different community and groups that live in Trieste, notably from Central and South-East Europe, which is a city famous for its multicultural background.
This section will also include the work of directors coming from Central European Initiative countries, competing for the CEI award for the best short film. There will be space also for training at Maremetraggio 2011. Young filmmakers attending the festival will be able to attend a workshop held by professionals of Esperimentocinema dedicated to the use of new technologies in films.
UNESCO supports the MAREMETRAGGIO International Short Film and Debut Feature Film Festival, as part of its mission to promote the values and objectives embodied in the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005).
