Passions of Youth celebrates baroque music in Venice
The UNESCO Venice Office is hosting on Friday 6 July, at 20h00, a concert of baroque music by the musical ensemble “Il Gene Barocco”. This concert is part of the 2012 festival « Passions of Youth », organized by the Venetian Center for Baroque Music, and will perform musical works by Arcangelo Corelli, Giovanni Benedetto Platti, Francesco Maria Veracini and Jean-Marie Leclair.
From Monteverdi to Vivaldi, this festival seeks to illustrate the diversity and beauty of the Venetian baroque repertory and recall how in the first half of the seventeenth century, Venice opened a new chapter in the history of art.
A centre providing resources and promoting the dissemination of information and knowledge, the Venetian Centre for Baroque Music carries out fundamental work in the fields of research and interpretation. Punctuating its editorial activities, an international festival is scheduled each year, along with an academy for young artists.
The concert fits within UNESCO’s overall mission to promote the diversity of cultural expressions, and promote the richness of the Venetian cultural heritage in all its dimensions.
