Regional Seminar on inventorying intangible cultural heritage. Arbanasi (Bulgaria) 15-21 June 2007
The Seminar on inventorying intangible cultural heritage for experts from South East Europe will be held from 15 to 21 June 2007 in Arbanasi (Bulgaria). The event is organised by the Institute of Folklore at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Bulgarian National Commission for UNESCO, in close cooperation with the UNESCO Office in Venice - UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe (BRESCE).
This initiative seeks to involve all institutions implicated in the domain of identification, safeguarding and promotion of intangible cultural heritage of the countries from Southern-Eastern Europe, in order to monitor and assess the state of the art, to study various inventory-making methodologies and to increase cooperation in the field. It will be an opportunity to share the efforts undertaken by Bulgaria in developing and establishment of Registers of the intangible cultural heritage.
The topic of this seminar was the condition of the immaterial cultural heritage in each of the participating countries, and also creation of national registers for this type of goods. The goal of the meeting was more extensive informing of the Regional Office of UNESCO in Venice on:
• the legal framework and the manner of treatment of the immaterial cultural heritage in the participating countries;
• the legal inherences of the authorized entities for protection of the immaterial cultural heritage in the overall system for protection of cultural heritage;
• the condition of this type of cultural heritage in its original environment.
The meeting was organized as a six-day interactive seminar at which, for certain conditions in the protection of the immaterial cultural heritage, presentations were given by experts, representatives from Republic of Macedonia, more precisely from the Cultural Heritage Protection Office and from the State Ensemble for dances and songs “Tanec”.
Representatives from the Region, including the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, FYROM, Greece, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey will participate.
