The United Nations in Serbia celebrates its 65th birthday on Friday, 22 October at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade. The anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter on 24 October 1945 has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. It has traditionally been marked and celebrated throughout the world. Since 1971, the Member States celebrate this date as international day.

This year celebration of the UN Day in Serbia is co-hosted by Serbian President Boris Tadic and UN Resident Coordinator Mr. William S. Infante, and Francisco Javier Hergueta Garnica, Minister Counselor Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain, that has inspired and provided generous support for the Sustainable Tourism and Regional Development Project, one of three Millennium Development Goal Achievement projects implemented in Serbia.

The event is dedicated to the celebration of the Millenium Development Goals with particular focus on the development of rural and cultural tourism that connects ecology, ethnology, organic food, cultural heritage, traditional art and crafts, music and fashion, mixing ancient and modern times. Art, crafts and traditional music are presented by some of the most prominent artist recognized in country and abroad. In the spirit of rural and cultural tourism development, the United Nations, in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Serbia and other national and international partners works to support the diversification of the rural economy through sustainable tourism program to improve the quality of life, reduce poverty, and address environmental degradation in rural Serbia.

United Nations Country Team in Serbia and its family of agencies are engaged in a vast array of work that seeks to improve people's lives. The UN Country Team remains a committed, credible and trusted partner to the government and people of Serbia.  The UN's strategy in Serbia is anchored to country's goals and objectives, and will be implemented in partnership by the myriad agencies that comprise the UN Country Team. Together, we look forward to sustained progress and results in promoting governance, development and regional cooperation and stability that leads to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, and the overarching objectives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia that are associated with EU membership.
