Sustainable Management of Cultural Heritage. Study tour along Serbian medieval fortresses on the Danube

Within the framework of the regional project “Cultural Heritage – a Bridge towards a Shared Future”, managed by UNESCO and financed by the Italian Development Cooperation, the UNESCO Venice Office, together with the Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society of Serbia, will organise a study tour on the sustainable management of immovable cultural heritage sites, aimed at university students from South-East European Countries. The one-week study tour will run from 5 to 11 June 2011 and take place along an itinerary connecting the medieval fortresses on the Danube in Serbia, intended as a case study for the presentation and discussion of issues related to the management of cultural heritage, hereby including: the application of international standards; the interplay of conservation, development and sustainability; the identification and role of relevant stakeholders in a framework of participatory approach; partnerships and fund-raising; etc.

The course will also focus on selected best practices and expertise from South-East European countries, with the participation of international trainers and speakers.

The designated participants/trainees will be students in architecture, urban planning, cultural heritage management or economics, cultural tourism, or related fields, selected on a merit basis by relevant institutions in the South-East European countries. During the study tour, the participants will present and discuss case studies from their respective countries.
