The Best in Heritage Conference, annually convened in Dubrovnik, Croatia is organized in partnership with Europa Nostra and numerous other sponsors including the UNESCO Venice Office. This Conference is an occasion to identify and promote the best museum, heritage and conservation projects around the world. This year’s edition will take place from 23 to 25 September 2010. During these dates a parallel event, the Creative Heritage Forum, has also been organized.

 

The UNESCO Venice Office continues to be proudly associated with this Conference. The Office’s participation in this event promotes the role of museums as reflective places of dialogue and understanding, and as facilitators and mediators of cultural exchange, particularly in the South-East European Region.

Overview:  The Best in Heritage is a presentation of internationally recognized museum, heritage and conservation projects. It brings together museum and heritage professionals from a broad range in the field of cultural heritage (architects, designers, consultants, information specialists, suppliers, tourism experts, media people etc.) and various institutions. The most remarkable and innovative projects are presented to the public and leading experts. Discussions and views are further elaborated taking into account notions of sustainable development, dialogue and cultural diversity, as well as best practices in the area of cultural heritage and management.

Programme:  Around 20 projects and institutions which have received national or international recognition are presented, followed by interactive discussions, exhibitions and receptions. There are several presentations of projects which have been awarded with a Europa Nostra Award. During the parallel event, the Creative Heritage Forum, 10 innovative ideas and projects will also be presented.

Creative Heritage Forum:  A Creative Heritage Forum, designed to promote excellence and innovation, is also an opportunity for professionals and institutions to share experiences and present new projects and proposals.

Patronage and Sponsors: The main patron is the ICOM (International Council of Museums). Other sponsors include: the UNESCO Venice Office (Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe-BRESCE), ICOMOS (International Council of Monuments and Sites), ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property), World Federation of Friends of Museums (WFFM), International Federation of Library Associations, the City of Dubrovnik and the Croatian Ministry of Culture. The Museums of Dubrovnik and the Croatian National Committee of ICOM (International Council of Museums) are supporting organisations. The event is organized in partnership with Europa Nostra.
