Treasures from Montenegro Exhibition at the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana

The exhibition on "Treasures from Montenegro: Ex-voto from Perasto and the Bocche di Cattaro" is run in Venice (Italy) from 7 December 2010 through 6 January 2011 by the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in collaboration with the National Archaeological Museum of Venice, the Embassy of Montenegro at the Holy See and the Order of Malta.

 

This original exhibition aims to promote a particular part of the artistic treasures of Montenegro, in particular the ex-voto of the Baroque period from the Bay of Kotor from the time when this province was part of the Venetian Republic. On display a rich selection of ex-voto (jewels and silver plates) from Montenegro and in particular from the Bocche di Cattaro, dating back to the Baroque period in which the region was part of the Venetian Republic.

The most important works on display are from the Sanctuary of the Madonna dello Scarpello in Perasto. Several hundreds jewels reflecting not only the wealth of this province but also its cross-cultural and artistic role being the frontier land between the Turkish Empire and Venice.
