Visit to the Intercultural Camp for Children at Strgačina, Rudo

Representatives of the MDG-F Programme Culture for Development visited the first intercultural camp in Strgačina, Rudo Municipality, which will host 280 children from entire BiH. The place of gathering and learning through workshops and performances was created by restoration of once abandoned school, as a part of the MDG-F Programme Culture for Development.

In next five years approximately 5,000 children will visit the intercultural camp Rudo which was for the first time open on July 12, 2010. This project developed by Rudo Municipality is being supported as one of top ten projects that were nominated within the public call of the Programme Culture for Development.

„Improvement of intercultural understanding, primarily among schoolchildren population is the main objective of this type of projects, which is one of the main objectives of the Culture for Development Programme” stated Renata Radeka, Programme Manager and Coordinator. “We can be satisfied with the results at the local level and we do hope that development of methodology for evaluation of investment and management in culture sector, restoration of important cultural monuments, as well as improved access to intercultural education will be achieved till end of the project”, Mrs. Radeka added.

Organizers of intercultural camp, representatives of elementary school „Rudo“, as well as Mr. Ninoslav Prijović, representative of Local development agency consider this project to be a great opportunity for Rudo to demonstrate its natural and human resources. Creation of this camp was inspired by intercultural camp held in the neighboring Goražde Municipality.

”Primary goal of culture for development will in the future establishing the culture within the area of primary sector of development of the society and a significant factor in GDP creation, instead of being a part of the secondary and tertiary domain as it is today”, said Milko Čolaković, Mayor of Rudo Municipality.

Children from 13 primary schools throughout the country visited the camp to date, and currently students from schools „Avdo Smailović“ from Sarajevo, „Rudo“ from Rudo and „Milan Ilić Čiča Šumadijski“ from Han Pijesak are there.

The Programme Culture for Development is a 3-year programme funded by the Spanish Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund which is being implemented in partnership of three UN Agencies: UNDP, UNICEF and UNESCO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, Ministry of Culture and Sports of FBiH, Ministry of Education and Culture of RS, as well as other institutions working in the area of education and culture.
