Montenegro became the 192nd Member State of UNESCO on 1 March 2007. Two sites in Montenegro are inscribed on the World Heritage List, the medieval city of Kotor and the National Park of Durmitor.

UNESCO Venice's activities in Montenegro are focused on UNESCO’s priority areas such as water, science policy and cultural heritage. High attention is given to planning and management issues at the Kotor WH site and Durmitor/Tara River WH site and Biosphere Reserve.

UNESCO will figure as official supporter of the next Ministerial Conference on Cultural Heritage in SEE  scheduled to take place in the country in April 2010.
