Plastic Free Venice initiative

The UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, Venice, in collaboration with various Venetian and national institutions including CNR-ISMAR and Veritas, is organizing a clean-up day for plastic waste that, incidentally or voluntarily abandoned, invade vast lagoon areas as well as the canals of the historic centre of Venice.

The initiative will take place on the occasion of the World Oceans Day (8 June). The theme for 2018 is "Clean Our Ocean”. The initiative is of a purely civic and educational nature, without any political connotation and open to every single individual or associations that intend to adhere on a personal or collective basis.

The clean-up activity, which aims at raising public awareness on the impact of abandoned plastic waste, will take place on 9 June. SkyTG24 TV programme, Sky Ocean Rescue - Un mare da Salvare, will follow live the launch of the initiative from Venice on 8 June.
