Bander H. Alswelem, Saudi Arabia

Bander H. Alswelem holds a B.A. in Education from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and a Master of Art in Teaching and Learning Early Childhood Development. He obtained a Ph.D in Child and Family Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, U.S.A. in 1997. Having worked as a Lecturer at King Saud University and Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he currently works as Assistant Professor at the University of King Saud University. Dr. Alswelem is Chair of the national team for developing the Saudi National Strategic Plan for Children (2007-present) and has carried out consultancy work for a variety of regional and international bodies, e.g. the Arab Bureau of Education for Gulf States, the Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia, UNESCO, AGFUND, the World Forum Foundation, and the Arab Council for Childhood and Development.

His publications and papers include: Saudi National Strategic Plan for Children (forthcoming); Evaluation of the Private Sector Role in Preschool Early Childhood Education in the Gulf States (2005); The Infrastructure required for Expanding High Quality Early Childhood Education in the Gulf States (2004); Growth in Early Childhood Education for the Past 10 Years in Gulf States:  Future Development and Planning (2003).
