As part of the preparation for the World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education, the Regional Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education for the Arab States was held in early September 2010 in Damascus, Syria. This regional conference attracted a number of high-level government officials engaged in the policy and provision of ECCE, and adopted the Damascus Declaration on ECCE in the Arab States. The Special Event is designed to share and exchange on the recommendations put forward in the Declaration to wider audience. It will discuss the findings of the regional conference, and further strengthen the commitment to the implementation of the Damascus Declaration from high-level participants. It will also address challenges and benchmarks regarding the EFA Goal 1 in the Arab Region.
