Communication Training in Africa: Model Curricula. Non-Degree and Degree Programmes

It is with the objective of contributing to the improvement of communication training in Africa that UNESCO has developed the current model curricula which, as the name implies, can serve as benchmarks or standards for training and preparing communication practitioners on the continent.

Education makes news: an education for all media training and resources kit

The kit, consisting of an interactive CD–ROM with a printed handbook, develops interest, knowledge and skills of journalists and other media professionals in writing, reporting and investigating the EFA issues and helps them to create stories from dull and dry statistics and bring the EFA debate to the center stage.

Evaluación de la realidad virtual en África: Una perspectiva pedagógica

Desde el año 2000, la UNESCO ha apoyado, en colaboración con la empresa Naledi3d Factory, varias iniciativas en las cuales se ha explorado el potencial de la realidad virtual (RV) como instrumento de enseñanza en África; hasta la fecha, concretamente, en Etiopía, Sudáfrica y Uganda (véase resumen en el cuadro). Con objeto de definir el camino a seguir para progresar en esta área, la UNESCO encargó el presente informe, en el cual se evalúan las ventajas comparativas de la aplicación de las herramientas multimedia e interactivas tridimensionales (3D) en el ámbito educativo.

Filosofía y principios de los archivos audiovisuales

En los escasos años transcurridos desde que se publicó la primera edición se han producido cambios importantes en el campo de los archivos audiovisuales. La irrupción de la digitalización y el consiguiente cambio tecnológico han puesto en duda la continuidad de profesiones asentadas. La película de nitrato, que antes se consideraba inestable y desechable, empieza a durar más que las copias en acetato realizadas a partir de las de nitrato con fines de conservación. Los cursos oficiales de postgrado en archivos audiovisuales se van afianzando y normalizando en algunos países como requisito para quienes desean ejercer la profesión. Estas circunstancias y otras parecidas plantean cuestiones filosóficas que deben abordarse.

How to get started and keep going: a guide to Community Multimedia Centres

There are growing numbers of grass-root communication and information service providers in the developing countries today. They are operating community radio stations, multipurpose telecentres, information centres, community learning centres and community multimedia centres (CMCs) that already combine both radio and telecentre facilities. This book is intended to be of use to all those wanting to become involved or already involved in such initiatives.

Human rights: questions and answers

This well-established book has been revised and updated to reflect recent developments in the field of human rights. The first part responds to 113 questions on the topic. In the second part, the 30 Articles are quoted and explained, including background information and examples. The book also includes notes that give more detailed information about individual states and their position.

International Seminar on Assistance to Media in Tension Areas and Violent Conflict, Stockholm, Sweden, 25-27 May 2003

In May 2003, UNESCO and Sida jointly organized a seminar on ”Assistance to Media in Tension Areas and Violent Conflict.” This booklet is a compilation of the discussion papers produced for the seminar, reflecting the outcomes of the discussions.

Media: conflict prevention and reconstruction

The World Press Freedom Day in 2004 was dedicated to the theme “Support to media in violent conflict and countries in transition.” This book explores various responses to this theme, which were presented at the UNESCO-sponsored conference in Belgrade marking Press Freedom Day.

Multimedia Training Kit

Multimedia Training Kit (MMTK) is a comprehensive suite of open-access, interactive, learning modules covering organizational, management, content production and issue-based training, for community multimedia centres (CMCs), community radio stations and telecentres. Its production is coordinated by the UNESCO-led consortium of partners. It can be downloaded from the ItrainOnline partners’ website.

Options for media development in Iraq: research for UNESCO, December 2004
