In follow-up to the First World Conference on Arts Education and in preparation to the Second World Conference, UNESCO has actively participated in the creation of Chairs and Observatories on Arts Education, with the support of its Member States and UNESCO communities.
While UNESCO Chairs’ main role is to focus on arts education in higher education, the Observatories look at Arts Education from a broader angle, not only specific to the formal educational system but also the informal, crosscutting a variety of areas and initiatives.

UNESCO also participated in a collaborative research on arts education glossary with the Korea Arts and Culture Education Service (KACES) with the main objective to develop a glossary tool for archiving and indexing arts education practice cases in the world.
