Web-based Tools and Resources:
The G-WADI site was developed in collaboration with the University of Arizona’s Sustainability of Semi-Arid Hydrology and Riparian Areas (SAHRA) initiative. It provides access to many information resources and is the home site for all G-WADI network projects. The site also provides access to software and software libraries.
G-WADI has teamed up with the University of California-Irvine Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing to make remotely senses data on key hydrologic parameters, such as precipitation, available at high resolution and in near real-time via the Internet. The aim is to build global capacity and increase equitable access to information by extending the benefits of space and weather agencies’ vast technological resources.
The website contains applications and tools for water resource managers that can improve forecasting, drought monitoring and flood warning.
The G-WADI programme has been successful in stimulating networking across a number of regional centres. The Asian G-WADI network was established in March 2005 by representatives from Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan to confront the urgent need for increased regional cooperation for sustainable development of arid and semi-arid zones. The Asian G-WADI network website was launched in 2007.
Additional networks in Africa, the Arab region, and in Latin America and the Caribbean are being established. H.E. Mohamed Nasr El Din Allam, Minister of Water Resources of Egypt, opened the meeting in Cairo, Egypt in September 2010 during which the establishment of the Arab G-WADI Network was discussed further.

The growth of the G-WADI programme and the launch of new regional networks has made the establishment of a technical secretariat necessary. Following examples of other IHP programmes, the International Center for Integrated Water Resources Management, ICIWaRM, a UNESCO category 2 centre, will help IHP in networking, outreach, communications, as well as training and capacity building.
