Projet 661 - The Critical Zone in Karst Systems

  • (1) 9 August 2019: Xiangxi, China

Xiangxi Geopark is a National Geopark of China, IGCP661’s leaders, Jiang Zhongcheng, Chris Groves, Yuan Daoxian, Zhang Cheng and Augusto Auler have been Xiangxi, to do some work to support the geopark construction. This time IGCP661 team will meet the evaluators, have field evaluation together, that some information related to karst critical zone will be exchange. Cause all the expense will be paid by Local government, IGCP661 will not give more financial support this time.

  • (2) 22 September 2019: Guilin, China

IGCP has been continuously conducted by IRCK for near 30 years. IGCP661 is the label of IRCK training course, which attracts the attention of international scientists. This year, IRCK training course will be organized with ISO/TC319 annual meeting at the same time, so much more scientists will attend it, and more karst geologists will participate in IGCP661 work meeting for a further cooperation.

  • (3) 24 September 2019: Malaga, Spain

During the end of September, IAH conference will be held in Malaga. IGCP661 has told the scientist who is interested in karst hydrogeology, and call for them participate it together to discuss the process of IGCP661 in their own countries. It will be an excellent opportunity to exchange the project information.

Bref résumé du projet

In the past 25 years, the international cooperation based on the IGCP projects in karst field attracted more than 200 scientists from over 40 countries to participate in. Based on the research team for international cooperation and the understanding of connotation of critical zone, we put forward the new IGCP project themed on "Global comparative research on structure, substance cycle and environment sustainability of the critical zone in karst systems". The new IGCP project will mainly pay attention to some scientific issues such as the structure, evolution, cycle of carbon-water-calcium and function of the critical zone and its sustainable utilization of the resources and environments.

It will focus on several aspects, which are influence of Himalaya uplift, highland in Middle East Area and the orogeny of Alps to the formation and evolution of karst; Influence of geological structure and differentiation of climate and vegetation on types, hydrogeological structure and characteristic of the critical zone; Influence of biogeochemical process, especially the microorganism action on substance cycle of the critical zone; The hydro-ecological and carbon sink function, influence factors, recording index, and maintaining mechanism of the critical zone; And establishment of monitoring stations and standards in different critical zones of the world.
