[Translate to francais:] West African Regional Capacity Building workshop in Science, Technology and Innovation Policy and Statistics

[Translate to francais:] May 2010 - This regional workshop was organized by UNESCO’s Division for Science Policy and Sustainable Development, UNESCO’s Cluster Office in Bamako (Mali), the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), the African Union/New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Mali. The 16 countries belonging to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) were invited to this workshop. It serves as a regional platform for the exchange of experiences and lessons learnt in conducting science, technology and innovation (STI) policy formulation and reviews in the presence of international experts. The first two days were dedicated to the STI policy reviews and the following two days to a training exercise in S&T statistics and indicators, given their importance for effective and evidence-based national policy formulation/revision. The workshop was financed by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development, UNESCO and the UIS.
