The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is committed to working with UNESCO to develop quality engineering education standards, increase public awareness about the value of engineering, particularly as a driver for sustainable development, and to expand the engineering workforce capacity.

UNESCO and IEEE collaborate on projects in Africa that aim to improve engineering education standards, facilitate faculty training, increase the number of students in engineering, particularly women, enhance interdisciplinary research capacity of universities, and incorporate engineering for sustainable development into curricula.
IEEE works with UNESCO in cooperation with African institutions to accredit universities, train faculty and develop engineering education outreach programmes for university students and teachers in Africa.
