Launched in 2011, the UNESCO-China-Africa Tripartite Initiative on University Cooperation aims to facilitate university partnerships, which will benefit the production of knowledge that fosters mutual understanding between China and African countries and the cultivation of top-level talents who can work effectively across borders.

Prior to this initiative, 20 higher education institutions in China were twinned with 20 higher education institutions in 17 African countries under a strategy known as “20+20 Cooperation Plan”. This plan is now an integral part of the initiative.

Believing that universities play a critical role in the development of human resources and knowledge production, this initiative highlights the unique tripartite dimension of UNESCO’s efforts to foster cooperation in higher education among key Member States and regions of the world.
