This Congress will focus on how to increase participation in skills development through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
It will provide a unique global platform for knowledge sharing, reflection and debate on the changing landscape of TVET and wider skills development systems. In addition, the Congress will address proposed key directions to ensure that the sector meets both national and regional development objectives and individual aspirations.
Around 800 policy-makers, experts and practitioners will gather to:
• Identify and discuss present and future challenges in TVET policies and reforms
• Build better understanding of and share knowledge on the contributions of TVET to development
• Inform perspectives for international cooperation in the field and set up joint directions for future work and support to TVET at national, regional and international level.
The three-day Congress will offer a variety of opportunities to share knowledge on progress of TVET reforms in UNESCO’s 195 Member States. It is expected that the outcomes of these debates – which will bring together key TVET stakeholders in including policy-makers, social partners and civil society – will inform policy-making, intensify efforts to address key challenges, strengthen cooperation among Member States, regional and international organizations, and inform UNESCO’s work in the field.
The Congress will also pay special attention to TVET systems in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and a concrete action plan will be proposed to support the development of relevant policies in cooperation with Member States and other partners.
