XXVIth General Assembly of the ISSC

The 26th Session of the ISSC’s General Assembly was hosted by Egypt’s Bibliotheca Alexandrina from 8-9 November 2006. The meeting included a joint session with the International Council of Philosophy and Humanistic Studies (CIPHS), during which the Foundation Mattei Dogan and ISSC Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Research was awarded for the first time.

The General Assembly elected a new President, Secretary-General, and Executive Committee. A report of these and other decisions taken during the meeting can be requested from the ISSC’s Secretariat.

The General Assembly meeting was preceded, on November 7, by an international symposium on “Emerging Paradigms and Issues in the Social Sciences and Humanities”. This symposium was jointly organised by the ISSC, CIPHS, and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Immediately after the General Assembly meeting, on November 10, the ISSC convened a workshop on “Social Science Cooperation: The Role of Institutions”. Apart from ISSC members, participants included representatives of development agencies, UNESCO, the European Commission and the European Science Foundation.
