ISSC meeting with Janez Potočnik,
European Commissioner for Research

On 1 February 2007 a delegation headed by ISSC President, Gudmund Hernes, met with the European Commissioner for Research, Janez Potočnik. The meeting provided an opportunity to introduce the Commissioner to the ISSC and to discuss with him possibilities for future collaboration between the Council and the Commission on issues of innovation, science and technology in developing countries and knowledge societies. The ISSC also discussed with Mr. Potočnik the Council’s plans for a World Social Science Report. The Commissioner stressed the importance assigned to the social sciences and humanities by the Commission, and drew attention to their strengthened role in the Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme.
